The Mount Clemens City Commission approved an extension of the city's engineering services contract with Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick, Inc. (AEW) and approved purchases and payments of invoices presented at the meeting.
City staff said AEW has provided engineering services to the city since May 2013 and requested an extension; "AEW has requested an extension of the contract and has committed to holding the same pricing from the 2013 bid process for an additional 5 years," staff said.
Commissioners approved the extension after confirming the contract would extend from 2018 to 2023 at the 2013 pricing. The commission then moved to approve purchase orders and payment of invoices. A commissioner raised a question about a $100,000 line item to cover additional inspection quantities and whether the funds would be sufficient; staff said the extra inspections are citywide and the amount may not cover all unexpected items.
Commissioners also asked why hauling and disposal bids varied by hundreds of thousands of dollars on some projects; staff explained that bid variability can occur when firms submit intentionally high bids to remain on vendor lists or due to mobilization and other cost differences, and that some projects funded by external grants require accepting the low bid.
Both the contract extension and the purchases were approved by roll call.
