The commission approved a fiscal year 2020 specialized services operating assistance program third-party contract between the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) and the City of Mount Clemens.
City staff explained that the contract contains a $5,281 increase in funding compared with the prior year but is otherwise identical in language to the FY2019 contract. "This contract has a $5,281 increase of funds to be distributed to the city and is identical to the fiscal year 2019 contract," city staff said while presenting the item.
Commissioner Menser asked for clarification about where the increase came from; staff said the increase was reflected in the agenda cover and resulted from additional funding received through SMART and MDOT.
One commissioner noted that SMART had revised indemnification language, making it more acceptable to municipalities after prior objections. The commission authorized execution of the contract by the appropriate city officials and recorded the roll-call vote in favor.
The contract authorizes SMART to provide certain public transportation services to persons with disabilities and senior citizens in Mount Clemens; the agenda packet said the contract had been reviewed by the city attorney's office.
