Several Mount Clemens residents used public comment time to report an intermittent moldy taste and earthy smell in tap water and to ask for clarity about repairs and financing.
Deborah Arlington (21 Breitmeyer Place) told the commission she has noticed a mold-like taste in recent weeks and asked whether the water department previously lacked funds to purchase equipment and whether a fix expected in October will restore potable tap water so she can stop buying bottled water. Another resident identifying herself as Susan (170 Cracker Boulevard) said neighbors collected a sample that she believes smells and tastes like mold and said she has received responses from the board stating "nothing wrong," but the residents disagree and have minimized use of tap water.
Commission leadership said staff would respond to the questions at the next meeting and offered to have staff call residents who provide phone numbers in the meantime; the city also pointed residents to its Mount Clemens Facebook page and City Hall contacts for official updates. No technical or laboratory test results were presented during the public-comment period; commissioners directed staff to provide information to the public at the next meeting.
Next steps: staff to gather details and provide a public response at the next commission meeting and to contact residents who supplied phone numbers if they requested earlier follow-up.
