Pack Memorial Library hosts Stumptown exhibit; Buncombe libraries to lead One Book, One Buncombe community read

Leonard said the Buncombe County Special Collections at Pack Memorial Library is hosting an exhibition called "Black Stories and Census Tract 2," which centers the experiences of elders and descendants of Asheville's historic Black neighborhoods, including Stumptown. The exhibit runs Jan. 20 through Apr. 21, 2026, and will close with a documentary screening and community gathering on Apr. 21 at 5 p.m.

The program also promoted "One Book, One Buncombe," a community-wide read featuring Happy Land by Dolan Perkins Valdez. Leonard said libraries across the county will assist residents in accessing copies and that a free author event is scheduled for May 16, 2026, at AB Tech. The hosts framed both the exhibit and the community read as opportunities to learn local history and support community dialogue.
