The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to appoint Donald D. Johnson as the city manager and city administrator during its March 2 meeting, approving his employment agreement by roll call.
The appointment motion was made and seconded and passed with all commissioners voting in favor. After the vote, Johnson introduced himself to the meeting and thanked the commission.
"I'm Don Johnson. I'm very pleased to have this opportunity. I think there's a whole lot of potential here in Mount Clemens, and I'm very excited about starting here," Johnson said.
Commission discussion before the vote included statements of support for the contract and appreciation that the proposed agreement aligned with prior discussions. One commissioner said the contract "includes everything we talked about," and members noted resident interest in having a permanent city manager.
The commission welcomed Johnson and briefly invited him and attendees to stand and introduce themselves; Johnson introduced his fiancée, Linda Russell. The commission's vote followed a brief presentation of the employment agreement attached to the agenda.
The appointment is effective as approved by the commission; the meeting record shows the commission completed the roll-call vote with all present voting yes. The commission also scheduled a work session later in March to begin planning priorities for the new administration.
