Cornish delays Phase 2 water work and seeks clarity from Board of Adjustments on variance process

Council members told the meeting that the town is awaiting clarification about water-spring rights and that Phase 2 of the water project (tank, filtration and chlorination steps) remains paused until the town completes follow-up work.

Chair (speaker 2) said the council had gone into executive session to discuss details the town could not share publicly but that "wheels are in motion" to try to secure the springs and that the council expects to know more in about a week. He said Phase 2 would remain on hold until the town obtains clarification from state authorities and completes internal research.

Separately, councilors discussed how the Board of Adjustments had been briefed in prior hearings and said future proceedings should provide both sides with full information and a clear agenda. Council members said they will do more to brief board members in advance and treat the board as a quasi‑judicial forum where both sides present evidence.

No formal actions were taken; councilors said planning & zoning and the Board of Adjustments will revisit the matter with more complete information at a future meeting.
