Clarkston — The Town Council on March adopted Ordinance 26-01, adding Chapter 4-8-1 to the municipal code to adopt the Utah Wildland Urban Interface Code (WUIC) and the state-maintained wildland urban interface map.
Clerk read the ordinance language and noted the measure implements a requirement from the 2025 Utah Legislature. "This is the one that we were required by state law to adopt," a council member said during discussion. The council moved, seconded and took a roll-call vote; the clerk announced the ayes and declared the ordinance passed.
Why it matters: The WUIC prescribes regulations intended to reduce hazards to life and property from development in and near wildland areas. The ordinance adopts the Utah WUIC and references Utah Code section 15A-2-0103 (as read during the meeting) and the state-maintained WUI map, which the council placed on file in the town clerk's office and said is available via the state's wildfire-risk website.
What the council said: During discussion a council member emphasized the ordinance is state-mandated and said town counsel reviewed the verbiage. "We're not in the business of making ordinances just to make them. This is state mandated," the council member said.
Next steps: The clerk said a copy of the WUIC will be made available in the town clerk's office and the referenced map is online at the state site. No amendment or further local action was recorded at this meeting.
Actions recorded: Ordinance 26-01 was adopted by roll-call vote and announced as passed.
