Becky McCutcheon, superintendent of Waxahachie ISD, delivered a brief district update covering enrollment, family events, pre-K enrollment rules and the upcoming spring break.
“Those results will be communicated to our families the week of March 23, so be looking out for that,” McCutcheon said regarding the Schools of Choice lottery, which she said drew more than 500 student applicants. The district did not clarify the school year referenced in the recording where that figure was given.
She announced a STEM community night set for March 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Waxahachie High School. The event, described as family-friendly, will include interactive exhibits, make-and-take activities, a jump-and-play zone and food trucks. McCutcheon said incoming pre-K students will have a separate early entrance at 5:30 p.m. to meet pre-K principals and teachers and receive a VIP swag bag.
The superintendent said the district offers both tuition-based pre-K and a free pre-K program for families who qualify, and that registration will open May 5. McCutcheon stated that, to enroll in Waxahachie ISD pre-K for the coming year, students must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2026.
She also congratulated the varsity boys basketball team on finishing as bi-district champions and said district staff surprised Teachers of the Year, Rookies of the Year and Sports Staff of the Year at campuses across the district.
McCutcheon closed by confirming spring break schedules: all campuses and offices will be closed March 9–13; staff return Monday, March 16, and students return Tuesday, March 17. She said some student activities will continue during the break and noted the next First Friday Focus is scheduled for April 3, with time and location to be announced.
The update was a district announcement and did not include formal motions or votes.
