The Escambia County Commission approved its consent agenda and several county-administration items on March 7, including a memorandum of understanding with Ascend Performance Materials for on-premise fire-department training, acceptance of an investment-portfolio report and approvals related to stormwater and dredging work.
Speakers at the meeting urged stronger stormwater design standards for basins, and staff responded that design updates remain under discussion. On White Island and related dredging work, residents and neighborhood groups praised staff for convening multiple public meetings and said recent changes improved the project design. "These changes are for the better," a neighborhood speaker said, praising staff engagement.
The clerk explained the county's investment-portfolio management: a third-party manager handles large portfolios under statutory restrictions; the clerk makes investment decisions within those limits. The board approved the clerk's report and other budget-and-finance consent items by recorded vote.
Other routine items on the consent agenda and administrative reports were moved and approved without extended debate; the meeting concluded with announcements and adjournment.
