Board unanimously approves 2026–27 fee schedule; parking, participation fees to increase

The board voted unanimously on March 3 to approve the Canyons School District’s 2026–27 fee schedule after a third reading and district presentations.

Leon Wilcox explained the legislative and operational context: the district must now provide a no-fee pathway so middle- and high-school students can complete all grades without paying fees; rising costs and reduced temporary state offsets required the district to seek other modest revenue adjustments. "We can no longer charge that registration fee," Wilcox said, noting the district has established schedules of classes that allow students to avoid fees if they choose.

Key changes adopted: parking permits will increase from $10 to $20; the district will add a $10 participation fee across many extracurricular groups to help cover Saturday custodial and overtime costs; class fees and CTE-related licensing fees were otherwise maintained. Wilcox also reminded the board that legislation (House Bill 142) will allow a fee-waiver student to attend one trip at no cost and require an agreement for a second trip.

Motion and vote: a trustee moved to approve the fee schedule; another trustee seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

What’s next: administration will post the fee schedules and spend plans on Diligent and each school website and work with principals to ensure no-fee pathways and fee-waiver procedures are in place.
