Board approves sale of Crescent View property to Sandy City for $17 million

Trustees voted unanimously to approve a purchase-and-sales agreement selling the former Crescent View Middle School site at 11150 South 300 East to Sandy City for $17,000,000.

Business administrator Leon Wilcox laid out the rationale: the 17.8-acre site has been used intermittently for holding students during renovations and currently houses the Life Skills Academy; the district has capacity elsewhere and received several offers, with Sandy City matching the highest appraisal and offering to keep the site for civic use. "We have received the bids from a couple developers, but Sandy City has agreed to match the highest offer that we received, which is 17,000,000," Wilcox said. He outlined transaction terms: $100,000 earnest money, all equipment and furniture remain the district’s responsibility to remove, a nine-month due-diligence period followed by up to three months to close, and a negotiated leaseback so Life Skills can remain in the building for the coming year.

Motion and vote: a trustee moved to approve the purchase-and-sales contract and to authorize the administration to complete surveys and closing activities; the board seconded and approved the motion unanimously.

Why it matters: the sale would monetize unused district property to fund district priorities while preserving community access through Sandy City’s planned civic use; the leaseback provides time for the district program currently housed there.

What’s next: administration will negotiate the leaseback details, coordinate surveys and provide periodic updates to the board during due diligence.
