Morrow County commissioners were asked April 1 to help publicize a countywide fireworks show set for Saturday, June 29, with a rain date of June 30 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.
Mount Gilead Village Council has approved full funding for the event, a presenter said, and the organizer asked commissioners to emphasize that the celebration is for Morrow County, not just Mount Gilead. "Mount Gilead Village Council has approved the entire funding... but we don't want it to be called the Mount Gilead fireworks because it's at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. It's for Morrow County," the presenter told the board.
Commissioners and council representatives discussed scheduling and noted the earlier date was chosen because of venue availability. No formal vote was recorded on the floor of the commissioners' meeting; the presenter said licensing, inspections and other operational items have been scheduled.
The organizers asked the commissioners to make public statements clarifying the event name and encouraging countywide attendance. Commissioners responded with appreciation for the village council's support and acknowledged the logistical work needed before the late-June event.
