The Homewood City Council voted to approve a two‑part package to modernize the city’s permitting and plan‑review system, both on the recommendation of the finance committee. Finance reported that Tyler Technologies and city staff presented a cloud permitting and paperless plan‑review system, which the committee supported.
"We heard from Garth Magnus, from Tyler Technologies and, mister Pugh, about this new system that would really kind of take our current permitting system into the century," a finance committee member said during the meeting. Council approved the budget amendment and transfer (resolution 24‑31) and separately approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign the amended Tyler Technologies contract (resolution 24‑32). Both votes were recorded 9–0.
City officials said the changes aim to make permitting more efficient for residents and builders by moving toward a paperless workflow. The council recorded the resolutions as part of the consent of business this session; implementation details and contract execution will proceed through the mayor and city staff.
