Chad updated the committee on an informational meeting called by Gold Cross: Grand Chute plans to pull its municipal area out of Gold Cross service and provide ambulance service on its own, which would leave Greenville, Ellington and Center to decide how to proceed. Gold Cross is proposing that those three municipalities join the county-level consortium and that the consortium add a fourth ambulance to preserve or improve response coverage.
Chad said New London had been the largest contributor to the small group of municipalities that included Greenville and Grand Chute because of its population and call volume. He described the current subsidy for municipalities in the consortium as about $13.17 per unit with three ambulances; Gold Cross's proposal to add the three municipalities and a fourth ambulance would raise the subsidy to approximately $15.64 per municipality. Chad emphasized the item was informational: the consortium talks are ongoing and no formal local action was required at the meeting.
Committee members asked about response times and mutual-aid arrangements; Chad said Gold Cross would shift ambulance staging to preserve service in the area and that mutual aid remains an option if multiple calls occur simultaneously.
