Councilmember Matthew explained a resolution to adopt county staffing levels and the county’s pay and benefit plans for 2026, saying it includes negotiated pay increases, updated salary grades and health-benefit program changes affecting AFSCME Local 1849, the Sheriff's Guild and nonrepresented staff.
"This is for AFSCME local 1849 and then also the Sheriff's Guild. It also includes nonrepresented staff, pay and benefit rates, for 2026," Matthew said, summarizing the resolution and noting the health-benefit programs will be provided by PEB and other vendors around April 2026.
A council member moved to adopt the resolution; Matthew seconded. The council approved the motion by voice vote and the chair declared the motion carried.
Why it matters: The resolution establishes the county’s pay and staffing framework for 2026, guiding department budgets and payroll implementation. It affects represented and nonrepresented employees and sets parameters for health benefits and salary grades going into the next fiscal year.
Implementation notes: Matthew and other council members described the resolution as the county’s routine annual action to adopt pay and staffing policies; staff said they would circulate the approved resolutions via DocuSign to council members after the meeting.
