The Peoria City Council voted March 26 to raise the city sanitary sewer lateral fee by 2.3%, increasing the rate from 1.3028 CCF to 1.3328 CCF effective May 1, 2024.
Finance Director Kyle Cratty told council the rise equates to about a $0.52 increase per quarter — roughly $2 per year for a typical homeowner — and is part of long-term planning to meet combined sewer overflow (CSO) obligations through 2059. "This 2.3% increase allows us to continue down that path, through 2059, which is the term of that plan to make sure we're meeting our obligations under the CSO," he said.
Crarty (sic) said the increase is aligned with information provided to council in 2020 as the city began implementing CSO-related requirements. Councilmember Riggenbach moved to approve the ordinance and Council member Kelly seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The ordinance was presented as a routine rate-setting measure tied to the city's capital and CSO program; staff said they are available to answer follow-up technical questions.
