Representative Crawford said the transportation package’s central aim is “funding critical infrastructure,” listing several large line items to catch up with population growth and freight demands.
Crawford described a $500,000,000 proposal for the Department of Transportation to address backlog and new demand, $250,000,000 for a 10‑year bridge modernization acceleration plan, and $125,000,000 for interstate widening and interchange projects on high‑volume corridors such as I‑26 and I‑85. He added $100,000,000 for local government paving and pothole repairs (CTC acceleration) and $70,000,000 for commercial airport infrastructure to support passenger and cargo growth.
The representative said the funds aim both to clear deferred needs and to stay ahead of projected growth in travel and commerce. He emphasized the work as a continuation of multi‑year discussions about highways and bridges and said the investments will improve daily commutes and commercial mobility.
