The Freeborn County Board voted March 3 to approve an interim county assessor agreement with Fillmore County that allows a Fillmore assessor to provide up to eight hours of services to Freeborn County Monday through Friday through May 31, 2026. Fillmore County will reimburse Freeborn County for salary and benefits for those hours; any additional work or hours would be negotiated between the assessor and Fillmore County separately.
Commissioners asked for clarification on mileage reimbursement, liability and insurance. County staff and counsel explained the agreement requires the assessor to submit mileage billing and includes indemnity/insurance provisions; staff said they do not expect frequent in‑person travel but that occasional site visits may be required and Fillmore County will reimburse mileage and related costs as stipulated.
The administrator described the arrangement as similar to a prior agreement with Dodge County used when Freeborn had a vacancy. Commissioners noted the statewide shortage of licensed assessors and said the agreement provides a practical bridge while Freeborn seeks a permanent solution. The board entered and approved the resolution by roll call vote.
