At the start of the March 5 Ventura County Planning Commission meeting, resident Linda Belmont urged the commission to uphold county ordinances and public‑safety decisions related to a separate Ventura Ridge housing proposal, arguing the site sits in a high‑fire‑severity zone and is surrounded by sensitive terrain and oak trees.
"The neighborhood itself lies in a high fire severity zone, which you've all heard," Belmont said during the public‑comment period, adding that nearby oil fields, canyons and remaining orchard land make the Ventura Ranch area distinct from other properties suggested for housing.
The commission then handled routine business. Staff presented visuals to clarify whether a previously requested Caltrans study should include Shell Road, Stanley Avenue, La Canada and adjacent on‑/off‑ramps; a commissioner moved to approve the minutes with the addition of Shell Road, Stanley and La Canada, the motion was seconded by Commissioner Ayala and the amendment passed on a unanimous roll call.
Assistant Planning Director Susan Curtis told the commission the April 2 meeting will include a single item (case PL21‑0019) concerning Forest Home Camp’s continued operation and a variance to continue the camp’s historic overnight and daily population; she said that will be the only item on that agenda.
Chair Sandlin adjourned the meeting after no further items were raised.
