South Beloit council approves variance at 325 Oakland Ave. and adds auto‑related uses to CR zoning code

The council approved two zoning items during the Jan. 5 meeting: Ordinance 28‑94, which grants a variance reducing the rear‑yard setback from 30 feet to 20 feet for the property at 325 Oakland Avenue, and Ordinance 28‑95, an amendment to the zoning code to include auto‑related uses as special uses in the commercial retail (CR) district.

Staff noted the variance was intended to allow relocation of a garage on the property; the zoning board had issued a positive recommendation. For the code amendment, staff said the change corrects an omission in the city’s code rewrite to ensure commercial automotive and related uses are explicitly covered in the CR district.

Both measures were moved, seconded and approved by the council during the meeting.
