Superintendent McKinley opened the March 5 meeting with a report on February activities across Beauregard Parish schools, citing classroom projects, student competitions and extracurricular recognitions.
McKinley said several schools marked Mardi Gras with parades and celebrations, and noted KR Hanchy Elementary observed both a 100‑day and 101‑day milestone, at which students dressed as Dalmatians. He highlighted spelling‑bee results, naming Posey Carpenter as SBUE winner and Harper McDaniel as a regional qualifier who finished among the top 10 after four rounds.
On athletics, McKinley said multiple teams advanced into postseason play: "Our boys' and girls' teams had notable showings, with Maryville’s girls traveling to Hammond for a state‑level game on March 6," he said. He also highlighted band, beta and robotics successes, including district students selected for the Bogart Parish honor band and a VEX robotics team earning an innovate award.
McKinley pointed to community service and classroom work, noting a Kindness Club visit to Westwood Nursing Home and a novel study about Hurricane Katrina that culminated in a student‑run mock court presided over by local attorney Jody Warden. He concluded by saying February had been “amazing for our students in Boulevard Parish” and expressed enthusiasm for March activities.
The superintendent’s report was presented as an informational update; there were no formal votes associated with the summary.
