The Mount Clemens City Commission confirmed two internal appointments at its Feb. 1 meeting.
City manager Jeff Johnson presented Kathleen Martin for confirmation as city clerk. Johnson said Martin came to Mount Clemens with 17 years of municipal experience, served six years as deputy clerk for Mount Clemens, has completed two of three steps for Michigan municipal clerk certification (delayed by COVID-19) and will begin with an annual starting salary of $70,000. The commission voted to confirm the appointment.
Johnson also presented Jennifer Giolodi for confirmation as human resources director, noting she has 17 years of prior administrative and human resources experience and has served as a confidential executive secretary in the city manager’s office. Johnson said she is in the process of attaining certification through the Society for Human Resource Management and will begin at a starting salary of $65,000; the commission voted to confirm her appointment.
Members praised both hires as internal promotions that should provide continuity after recent retirements. During public participation Sarah (the city's HR director) offered a farewell reflecting on 22 years of city service; Johnson previously noted that Sarah Price and Lisa (last name given in meeting) are retiring and that their combined years of service will be missed.
The confirmations were approved by roll call; no dissenting votes were recorded.
