The East Hampton Zoning Board of Appeals on March 6 heard an application by Natalie Baron and Timothy Chizek for area variances to extend an existing patio and install a 10-by-10 spa at 177 Coppola Road.
Kathleen McHenry of Long Island Permits, representing the applicant, said the spa would be modest in size and that existing tall native screen plantings will serve as visual buffers. The application requests a 2.3-foot variance from the 55-foot front-yard setback and a 9.6-foot variance from the 40-foot side-yard setback for the spa.
Board members asked whether spa equipment would be self-contained or require separate equipment that would need to meet the double setback. Village representative Billy Hajak noted that if separate equipment is added outside the spa it would have to meet setback rules and might require an additional variance and re-noticing. McHenry said the applicants had a plan B to shift the spa closer to the house and offered to submit revised drawings showing relocated equipment.
The board asked the applicant to provide revised drawings that clarify equipment placement and whether any additional variance for equipment would be necessary; the hearing was held open to the next meeting to receive and review those drawings.
