During the public-comment portion of the March 4 meeting, two community members addressed the commission.
Jan Gugby identified herself as a member of the American Association of University Women and invited commissioners to a community 'birthday' event the organization plans to hold in Gilroy on Saturday, April 18; the location had not been finalized at the time of her comment.
Dave Lieberman, who said he is “a fourth and fifth grade P.E. teacher” in town and operates regional youth baseball and softball tournaments, told commissioners he would like to bring tournaments to Gilroy and asked about options to raise funds to improve fields at Los Animas Park and Christmas Hill Park to support larger events.
Commissioners encouraged Lieberman to leave contact information and staff indicated they would follow up with details and check the public comment card for contact information. Staff asked Lieberman to provide contact details and said they would follow up offline to discuss field needs and possible funding avenues.
No formal action resulted from the public comments, but commissioners noted the suggestions for outreach and for field upgrades could be considered as part of the parks work plan and master-plan discussions.
