At the start of the March 3 meeting a South Side resident identified as Nils told the Laramie City Council that daily noise from modified vehicle exhaust and loud stereos outside the WyoTech dorms near Person Street disrupts sleep and life at home.
Nils said he and his neighbors repeatedly ask drivers to turn down music and file noise complaints with the Laramie Police Department, but the problem persists—he described the experience as "playing WyoTech whack-a-mole" and said it is unsustainable to keep making complaints and asking a rotating set of students to change their behavior. "I shouldn't be woken up in the middle of the night to have to put boots and a jacket on to go out in the freezing temps to find whomever is making the disturbance," he said.
Vice Mayor Micah Richardson thanked Nils and noted the police chief was present and might follow up. Nils urged the council to consider stronger or more effective responses because informal approaches and repeated noise complaints are not working for his neighborhood.
The council did not take formal action on the complaint at the meeting but acknowledged the concern and indicated staff and police follow-up would be appropriate.
