County officials reported this evening that a recent trip to Washington, D.C., included positive meetings with U.S. Department of Transportation officials and federal legislators regarding a federal rail grant application.
The presiding official said the county met with DOT and federal legislators, including Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody and Rep. Posey, and worked alongside City of Cocoa and the Brevard County TPO. He said the county’s application appeared strong but that the funding pot is competitive; officials expect preliminary review possibly in June.
Why it matters: Federal rail grants can provide large capital funding for rail and transit projects; whether Brevard receives funds will affect planning and construction timetables.
What’s next: Officials expect to learn initial results of the grant review possibly in early summer.
