The Goochland County Board of Supervisors authorized a construction contract for a new fire station near the Sandy Hook roundabout, approving a motion to allow the county administrator to execute a contract with Gulf Seaboard at a base bid of $9,450,000 and a construction contingency of up to 10% ($945,000).
County staff said the station project has been funded across multiple prior board appropriations and a 2021 general‑obligation bond. When combined with land acquisition, wells, site design and furnishings the county's total project outlay is currently estimated at about $12.8 million.
Board members spoke in favor of the project as a public‑safety priority. The motion to authorize the contract was moved, seconded and approved by roll call; supervisors recorded yes votes in the minutes for the motion. Staff said they prequalified contractors and solicited public bids before recommending Gulf Seaboard as the lowest responsive bidder.
With the contract authorization in place, staff will finalize the contract documents, incorporate the contingency language, and proceed to construct the station under the county's capital project procedures. The project team said the station is intended to improve response times for the Sandy Hook area and is fully funded from previously appropriated bond and CIP dollars.
