Board staff and members discussed a set of budgetary and personnel items and took action on routine financial business.
A presenter described moving the library technology supervisor position (position number 2331) to a different pay/placement to make the role more attractive to applicants; staff said the move would be cost neutral because both positions share the same salary. The board also announced that it will post a line-item version of the budget on the board of education website once the board approves the budget.
Separately, staff invited the public and colleagues to attend finance committee budget workshops, which were described as beginning Monday, March 9; the acting assessor will present an update during the workshops. The meeting also included discussion about Department of Education applications and requests to extend expiration dates for certain school approvals and referenced a SHIP extension act and Medicare/Medicaid reporting updates.
Members expressed concern about teacher shortages and the need to prioritize limited budget resources; several said the board must be critical of new expenditures given recurring budget constraints.
