Orland Park approves playground upgrades and wetland mitigation for 140th Street widening

Mayor Jim Dodge said the village board received presentations and approved multiple capital projects, including park upgrades and a roadway widening project that required wetland mitigation. He outlined playground work the board approved at Helen Park, Grasslands and Evergreen View, saying the renovations "will include new playground equipment, upgraded site amenities, and ADA enhancements" and that the projects "are fully budgeted for this year."

Dodge said park pavilions at Eagle Ridge and Evergreen View will be replaced and the board reviewed a strategic operating plan and feasibility study for athletic fields. He described a separate feasibility study at the former Riviera Country Club property to evaluate a potential Eastern Field House, senior activity center and family play destination, and said "staff is going to move forward with these studies to address community demand and operational considerations."

On transportation, Dodge described traffic-safety initiatives and identified a "key project" along Hundred And 40th Street from Southwest Highway to Wilcook Road to improve mobility and safety. For that widening project the board "approved an agreement with Mill Creek Wetland Mitigation Bank to purchase mitigation credits," Dodge said, adding the credits allow the village to address "a small wetland area along the corridor and move the project responsibly forward while also protecting the oak trees at the site."
