Osage County commission approves formal fence‑view application and clarifies process

The Osage County Commission on March 3 approved a formal fence‑view request form and agreed to set another official fence view date after hearing from residents about a neighbor boundary dispute. Jeremy Ross, who spoke during the item, asked the commission to adopt a standard application so requests create a clear paper trail and allow both sides to submit documentation in advance. "We need to set another notice, an official fence view," Ross said, and the commission agreed the application would include instructions and required checks pursuant to state law.

Commissioners discussed statutory requirements for fence viewers, the modest compensation amounts and how notice should be provided to affected property owners. Speaker 4 read the statute into the record, noting compensation of $7.50 per fence viewer and a filing fee of $22.50 as required by KSA 29‑203. "Each fence viewer shall be entitled to receive $7.50 as full compensation for each fence viewed," the reading said.

Chair moved to approve the Osage County fence‑view request form as presented; a commissioner seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. The commission directed staff to circulate the approved application, provide mailing notice to property owners when a view is scheduled and set a fence‑view date for the matter raised by residents.
