A representative from Self Discovery 24 updated the Stephens County Board of Commissioners on an opioid-response project, saying the nonprofit had distributed 100 opioid rescue boxes across the county.
"We have finally got all 100 boxes distributed across the county," the presenter said, and added that school systems — especially the high school — welcomed the program because staff reported incidents where having medication at hand would be "vital." The presenter thanked the board for assisting with the project and expressed appreciation for staff cooperation.
Why it matters: distributed rescue medication and trained placement in schools and other county locations can expand immediate response capacity to suspected opioid overdoses; the board received the update as part of routine reports and no formal action was recorded.
The presenter noted logistical challenges in distribution but said the effort was completed and school personnel were pleased with access to the boxes. Commissioners thanked the presenter and moved on to subsequent agenda items.
