The Weber County Board of Commissioners approved a contract March 3, 2026, allowing the Utah Cutting Horse Association to hold the UCHA Gold Spike Cutting event at the Golden Spike Event Center.
The presenter described the event as one of the venue's top revenue generators. "Last year, it was a little bit over a $120,000 in revenue to the Golden Spike," the presenter said, and noted additional ancillary economic impacts to local hotels and restaurants.
Commissioner Jim Harvey moved approval of the contract and Commissioner Bolles seconded. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
County officials said the event typically occurs in the fall — around October or November — and that the proposed contract was before the commission because its fee structure did not directly accommodate the event's schedule and length. The contract approval will allow the event to proceed under the negotiated terms and keep a recurring customer at the Golden Spike Event Center.
