At the March 5 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, Recreation Services Supervisor Cheyenne Howder presented a schedule of recreation offerings for March and April and announced operational-hour changes effective Sunday, April 5.
Howder said Cerritos Park East, Heritage Park, and Liberty Park will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. beginning April 5. She also said the Ironwood Golf Course driving range will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the course will be open daily at 6 a.m. and close at sunset.
Howder described program offerings and events: a teen employment workshop at Heritage Park on March 7; a chess tournament March 19; a CPR and first aid certification class on March 21 (American Red Cross certification for two years); an Arbor Week poster contest with entries due April 3; a youth golf clinic April 6–9; a jigsaw puzzle contest (registration by April 8); youth soccer classes; fitness walkers program; belly jam dance/fitness sessions; and the Spring Fling Fireworks Spectacular at the Cerritos Sports Complex on April 25 with entertainment and food trucks. Fees and residency differentials were provided for some offerings and contest deadlines were given when applicable.
Howder provided contact information for Recreation Services and offered to answer commissioner questions. The presentation was informational; no votes or budget actions were taken on these program announcements.
