Resident requests village permission to host No Kings Day rally on March 28

Joseph Carroll told the village committee he wants to organize a small, two-hour, self-funded rally on March 28 for people who cannot travel to larger events. Carroll said he would provide snacks, water and first aid, that his father would help, and that he would accept personal responsibility for the event.

Committee members noted that village public property is a public forum and that officials cannot limit access based on viewpoint, citing advice the mayor and village attorney had provided. The chair asked Carroll to notify Chris in advance and recommended informing the police so officers could monitor the event and respond if it became unsafe.

Carroll suggested indoor space at the Leo Hassett Center if the weather is poor or Legacy Park’s large field for an outdoor gathering; the board advised checking park leases and potential conflicts with scheduled sporting events and recommended booking any indoor space to reserve it in case of inclement weather. No formal permit or vote was recorded at the meeting; board members said staff would follow up on scheduling and any applicable facility reservations.
