Board members discussed two related items affecting the Square on Second: a turf installation contract and broader resurfacing options.
On the turf, officials reported that the village has already purchased turf that remains in storage; if the project does not proceed, the installers would still be owed approximately $38,766 under contract. A vendor change-order request to move installation to the south side (requiring extra demo, removal of fences and installation of safety surfacing under a zip line) would add about $47,450. Staff said Mike had met with the vendor (identified as Synthetic Turf, based in Peatone) and would continue negotiations to reduce the cost. Board members discussed alternatives such as rubber mulch (maintenance concerns) and the practical limits of soliciting additional bids for a niche market.
Separately, staff presented options for resurfacing the Square, including stamped asphalt or stamped concrete. Members noted heavy public use increases wear and that concrete is likely more durable. Ideas included limiting stamping to the Square itself, staining, or using mobile CNC etching to reproduce a logo. Staff will obtain pricing for public works to review at the next meeting. No final vote or contract modification was recorded at the committee meeting.
