A program presenter at Morton CUSD 709 said the district’s multilingual program serves “about 63 kids across the district in preschool through grade 12,” representing “about 11 different languages,” and focuses on English-language acquisition through listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The remarks came during a gallery-walk event described by a staff member as a brochure-led, science fair–style opportunity for families and staff to visit program tables, ask questions and learn each program’s goals. The staff member invited attendees to “come join” the gallery-walk event.
The program presenter said the multilingual curriculum centers on developing English proficiency across four domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. “A major focus of our program is obviously English language acquisition, and we do that through listening, speaking, reading, and writing,” the Program presenter said.
District staff provided the participation totals and language-count figures as approximations; the presenter prefaced the numbers with “about,” indicating they are estimates rather than exact counts. No formal motions, votes or policy decisions were recorded during the discussion.
The gallery-walk event and the multilingual program overview were presented as informational items; the meeting did not set a follow-up date or request for staff action during the segment reviewed. Attendees were encouraged to speak with program representatives at the event tables for more detail.
