Beaufort County Schools has opened registration for the District Dash 5K, scheduled for May 9 at 9:15 a.m. at Koligny Beach on Hilton Head Island, the county bulletin said.
Kyla Williams, the presenter on the county bulletin, introduced a student segment describing the event and its goals: "This community event is all about promoting exercise, wellness, and healthy habits across all our schools," a student presenter said.
Students provided event specifics: there will be a half-mile race for elementary students ages 7 and under starting at 9 a.m., and the main 5K begins at 9:15 a.m. Registration costs listed in the bulletin are $15 for students, $20 for adults and $10 for the elementary half mile. The bulletin said there is no registration on race day and that participants who register by April 20 will receive the official District Dash T-shirt.
The bulletin also said schools should sign up as race teams; the three schools with the highest participation will receive a wellness funding prize to support their Boeing MURC wellness program. The county provided a video of the full District Dash on the Beaufort County Schools YouTube channel and directed listeners to the school and county pages for registration and more details.
Beaufort County Schools and event organizers did not provide a contact name for press inquiries in the bulletin. Interested participants should follow the registration link from Beaufort County Schools or contact their school for team sign-up instructions.
