Tonight: Bluffton Rotary oyster roast; Conroy Center and Penn Center hold Pat Conroy remembrance programs

Several community events across Beaufort County were highlighted in the county bulletin, including a Rotary fundraiser and literary programs honoring author Pat Conroy.

Kyla Williams announced that the Bluffton Rotary Club will host its annual oyster roast tonight at the Bluffton Oyster Factory in Oyster Factory Park from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $45 and $55 at the door, and the ticket price covers all-you-can-eat roasted local oysters, chili, bratwurst, hot dogs and hand-cut fries; beverages including soda, beer and wine will be sold separately. The bulletin said proceeds will support the Bluffton Rotary Club and its service mission.

The bulletin also described a series of events organized by the Conroy Center under the title "March 4," marking 10 years since Pat Conroy’s passing. Author Bridal Slocum is scheduled to speak at the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce tonight from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and Chris Barr, Interpretive Program Manager and Public Information Officer for the Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, will present "Echoes of the Past, the Buford Witness Tree, and Reconstruction History," followed by an open house with literature and discussions.
