The Mount Clemens City Commission voted on Nov. 2 to table a consent agenda item that would have scheduled a public hearing for a downtown maintenance program after a commissioner said the commission had not received the underlying maintenance plan.
“We haven't been presented with a plan for that maintenance program,” said a commissioner (Commissioner Menser), arguing the commission should review the plan before the matter was put on the public hearing calendar. “We have nothing, no background, no data, no plan in order to vote on it.”
City Manager Johnson replied that the maintenance program information is customarily presented at the time of the public hearing and that tabling the item would not cause an overall delay. “Tabling that would cause no overall delay,” Johnson said, adding that the item had already been moved back in the schedule.
Commissioner Menser moved to table consent agenda item 10a until the next meeting; the motion was supported and approved by roll call (one no vote). The commission then adopted the agenda as amended.
The action keeps the downtown maintenance matter on the commission's calendar but postpones any formal consideration until commissioners receive the plan and supporting materials. The record shows the motion to table was moved by Commissioner Menser and supported by Commissioner Goodenough; the roll call that approved tabling recorded five yes votes and one no vote.
Votes at a glance: excusal of Commissioner Fournier (approved), table consent item 10a (approved, 5–1), adopt agenda as amended (approved), approve minutes and payments (approved), consent agenda otherwise approved (approved), adjourn meeting (approved).
What happens next: The item will be held for the next meeting; commissioners asked staff to provide the maintenance plan and background material before the public hearing is scheduled.
