The Mount Clemens City Commission on Aug. 3 approved an agreement allowing LK St. Clair Soccer, Inc. to construct and use a soccer field in Memorial Park.
The commission voted to approve the contract after Jeff Wood, identified in the meeting as assistant city manager, said Advancing Macomb and the soccer club wrote a grant that provided $10,000 toward converting a former ball field into a soccer field. "The LK Sinclair soccer club has approved that agreement and, we're in the process of constructing this soccer field," Wood said. He added that lighting is not included in the current agreement and the city and club are pursuing other grants for lights and irrigation.
The vote followed a motion to approve the agreement, which the mayor called and commissioners supported without substantive debate. The clerk conducted a roll call and each commissioner recorded a yes vote.
Nut graf: The agreement moves forward a city‑partnered recreation project funded in part by an outside grant; the commission emphasized that lighting and irrigation would be pursued separately rather than included in the present contract.
The item came with supporting materials reviewed by the city attorney, and staff described the next steps as construction-ready for fall play if permitting and procurement proceed on schedule. Commissioners praised the free youth clinics the club has run and noted the field will expand recreation opportunities at no direct cost to users for the initial phases.
