The Mount Clemens City Commission voted July 20 to approve a memorandum of understanding with the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit to deliver programming under a Project Play Sport Port grant administered by Advancing Macomb.
City Manager Donald D. Johnson said Mount Clemens is the only community in Macomb County to receive this grant and that the YMCA is a program partner providing activities in city parks. "The attached memorandum of understanding was reviewed and revised by the city attorney," Johnson said, and the arrangement will allow the YMCA to run its "Y on the Fly" program at Shady Site Memorial and, if schools enter agreements, at Karnesfield.
Commissioners expressed thanks to Diane Banks of Advancing Macomb and library director Brandon Bowman, both of whom were cited for their roles connecting programs and equipment distribution. The commission moved, seconded and approved the MOU by roll call.
Next steps: staff will execute the MOU so program partners can proceed with scheduling, distribution of sports packs and on-site programming consistent with COVID-19 safety guidance.
The MOU supports grant-funded youth recreation services and is subject to the terms reviewed by the city attorney.
