Recreation Director Lori Stasiak told the Oak Park City Council that nearby Southfield had closed its outdoor municipal swimming pool and had asked for its residents to be allowed to use Oak Park’s pool at the resident rate, with proof of Southfield residency.
Stasiak said Oak Park pool staff "will create a tabulation for their swimmers to maintain an accurate count for each of our swim sessions," and that "the city of Southfield will provide payment to the city of Oak Park for the difference per swimmer between the resident rate and the nonresident rate." She told the council the proposed agreement had been reviewed and approved by the city attorney and asked the council to approve the intermunicipal arrangement.
A motion to approve the agreement was made and seconded. Council members raised a brief operational question about capacity; the presenter and members noted that Oak Park could still accommodate swimmers from Ferndale and Southfield. Stasiak said the resident fee "is anywhere between $3 and $4 per session" and that the reimbursement difference would be "a dollar or two, depending on the swim."
The council held a roll call vote. Council member Radnor, Council member Whitehead, Council member Edgar and Mayor McClellan voted yes, and the motion carried. The transcript records the motion as carried and offers no further formal action on the agreement.
