Charter committee confirms mayor and council pay language; figures unchanged

The Charter Review Committee reviewed the compensation section of the proposed charter and confirmed language spelling out monthly pay for elected officials and an annual cost‑of‑living adjustment.

City Attorney Mr. Stokes said the compensation amounts — mayor $750 per month, vice mayor and council members $600 per month — had already been approved at a prior meeting; he provided drafting changes to harmonize language and to tie the monthly amount to the same annual cost‑of‑living adjustment given to general city employees.

Committee members said no new motion was required because the amounts were approved previously and the attorney was simply presenting wording. The committee will consider the full package of charter sections again before transmitting them to the city council.
