Senate approves bill restricting county authority over residential development after robust debate

Senators debated and passed Senate File 24-42, a bill that prohibits county boards of supervisors from restricting construction or development of residential dwellings except for reasons of life, health and safety. The Senate passed the bill 28-16. Supporters said the change would allow more housing development in counties; opponents said it could increase infrastructure and service burdens and accelerate conversion of farmland.
