Beavertown staff told the board on March 3 that the school’s after-school offerings have grown from two programs to 11 and that the clubs aim to increase student engagement and belonging.
The presenter described activities ranging from junior optimist and choir to a new newspaper club and a drum club, and she said students perform for local senior centers and participate in community projects. Two students spoke about their club experiences; one identified herself on the record as Ana Sanchez, who said she has been a member of the senior optimist club for two years and participates in choir.
Why it matters: School leaders said after-school programs build student connections to school and support social and academic readiness. Staff also recognized several employees who lead clubs and encouraged pictures and community follow-up.
What’s next: The school said the newspaper club’s first edition will go out to families and staff this week and encouraged board members to attend future student performances.
