Lakemore council honors fire crew, approves routine bills and multiple personnel resolutions

The Village of Lakemore council met in February 2026 and recognized the Lakemore Fire Department for a Dec. 23, 2025 cardiac-arrest response that county EMS said resulted in a young patient’s survival.

"In less than one minute, the crew recognized the rhythm and delivered a defibrillation shock of 200 joules," said Justin Gabora of Akron General EMS, who presented a challenge coin to the department and described the incident’s clinical details. He said the patient’s rhythm "quickly converted to a perfusing rhythm" and the patient regained consciousness on arrival at Akron Children’s Medical Center. Gabora identified himself as part of Akron General’s EMS team.

Council members praised the department’s response during the presentation and afterward. "We save one life; that’s worth every dime that you pay," said a council member (speaker S8) during remarks praising the firefighters. Multiple council speakers reiterated gratitude for the crew’s performance.

After the presentation, the council returned to regular business and handled several consent items. A motion to accept the minutes from the Feb. 18, 2026 meeting was approved by roll call. A separate motion approved bills dated Feb. 14–27, 2026 totaling $212,459.56.

Council also approved routine administrative items by roll call, including acceptance of the February 2026 delinquency report and a letter of support for the Springfield Township Spartan Trail Project. The council approved a change to bank signatories to remove a former signer and add Council member Ray as a signer on village accounts.

The clerk read a series of resolutions and ordinances covering personnel actions, contracts, and appropriations. The council adopted multiple resolutions accepting resignations from fire and police personnel and approved several hires for part-time firefighter medics. The council also adopted a resolution (7562) approving an agreement with Lexipol to update the police department’s policy and procedures manual; the agreement as read into the record included a one-time setup cost of $19,647 and an annual cost of $10,844.10.

The council endorsed Ohio’s America250OH commemoration program and authorized the village administrator to apply for a capital budget community project requesting $34,965. The council also moved to authorize bids and contract execution for the sanitary sewer phase 2 project and named H. M. Miller in the text as the bidder referenced in the resolution.

Meeting leaders announced upcoming local events: a spaghetti dinner at Lake Marina United Methodist Church on March 14 (takeout and dine-in) and a March 23 Summit Soil & Water watershed workshop at Springfield High School. Council members reminded residents about stormwater stewardship, paper recycling procedures, and local housing and rental assistance resources that will be posted to the village Facebook page.
