At its meeting, the Germantown Village Board approved a set of governance and community‑event items that trustees said will improve transparency and operational capacity.
The board voted to amend the municipal code to increase the Economic Development Commission (EDC) membership from seven to nine members. Staff and the village attorney said the change aims to reduce the likelihood of a negative quorum that can block committee work, and trustees agreed to provide special training on open‑meetings rules and quorum management. Trustee Pieper requested clarity around appointment practices; the board confirmed the president’s recommendations would be subject to full board approval.
The board also approved a conditional use permit for a commercial stable and boarding operation (Rao Farms LLC). Staff confirmed the property is zoned A‑2 (agricultural) and existing buildings will continue to be used for the stabling operation.
On community events, the board received an update on July 4 planning: the Chamber of Commerce will manage the parade, Parks & Rec will coordinate post‑parade activities at Fireman’s Park, and multiple community groups have offered programming. Trustees discussed reviving the formal Fourth of July committee; Trustee Jan Miller agreed to chair a trustee‑led committee to work with staff and volunteer groups, and the motion to form the committee carried.
Trustees also discussed a village nonprofit, Celebrate Germantown, formed to assist with event fundraising and operations; staff said the nonprofit’s IRS status application is pending.
These items passed by roll call as the board balanced governance reforms with event planning and routine land‑use approvals.
