Greene County commissioners unanimously approved a walk-on resolution to support a Community Project Funding (CPF) grant application for a new animal shelter.
Manager Mister Cannon said the CPF grant cycle had just opened and that the county had a narrow window to apply. He described the facility as a needed renovation or new construction (referred to as the Edgemont Shelter in discussion) and asked the board to provide a letter or resolution of support that is often required for competitive CPF applications. "I'm going to put a money value of 1.8 to $2,000,000," Cannon said when asked about a funding estimate.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about timing and district representation; Cannon referenced Don Davis' office and the upcoming election and district changes when explaining who the facility would serve and when a new district line would take effect. Commissioner Jones moved to adopt the walk-on resolution and Commissioner Johnson seconded; the chair called the question and the motion carried unanimously.
The board's vote provides formal support the manager said is necessary or helpful to apply for CPF funding. Cannon noted the grant competition will be tight and that the resolution is being added after the agenda was published because the grant window opened recently.
Staff will proceed with the CPF application steps and return to the board if additional approvals or matching funds are required.
