Member Kelsey Herzog introduced two resolutions asking the board to nonrenew certain noncertified and certified employee contracts pursuant to Minnesota statute referenced during the reading. The nonrenewal motions were described by district staff as a result of budget reductions; trustees voted by roll call to approve both resolutions after a technical amendment to remove one teacher who had resigned.
The noncertified resolution named employees whose contracts would not be renewed at the close of the 2023–24 school year (names were read into the record by the member who introduced the motion). The board then took a roll-call vote; each trustee recorded a "Yes" vote on the resolution as read.
On the teaching-contract resolution the board was told that one named teacher, who had been listed for nonrenewal in the reading, had already resigned. The board amended the resolution to remove that person before proceeding; the amended resolution passed on roll call with all trustees voting "Yes." District staff and trustees said positions could be revisited for reinstatement if additional funding becomes available.
Why it matters: Contract nonrenewals directly affect staff employment and student support services; the board noted the actions were tied to budget reductions and indicated interest in revisiting hires if legislative or other funds become available.
What’s next: District staff will send statutory written notices to affected employees and will return to the board if resources permit reappointments or other budget changes.
