During its March 19 meeting the Buchanan County Public Schools board set aside time to recognize student achievements and hear presentations from Career and Technical Center instructors about program offerings and outcomes.
Board members and administrators recognized all‑region athletic honorees, state and regional wrestling placings, and regional science fair winners from several county schools. Multiple students addressed the board and said what they appreciated about their schools and teachers; several students identified themselves by name and grade during those remarks.
Career and technical instructors gave short presentations describing hands‑on curriculum, industry credentials and postsecondary pathways. Steve Cole, the auto‑body instructor, described shop equipment, painting and welding instruction and recent student projects. Stephanie Mullins explained the CNA program, noting it is a two‑semester sequence that includes local clinicals and board‑exam support; she said the career center helps pay for boards for students who meet performance thresholds. Howard Fuller described cybersecurity coursework emphasizing ethical ("white hat") hacking and penetration testing techniques. Stacy Griffey outlined the dental assisting program and cited the national average salary for dental assistants to illustrate workforce potential.
Administrators and board members praised the programs as critical workforce pipelines and urged continued community support for the career center. The presentations did not include formal board action but were offered to inform budget and program planning.
The board also recognized regional and state athletic accomplishments, including multiple all‑region selections and state placings in wrestling.
The career‑tech presentations and student recognitions were part of the same meeting in which the board adopted the 2024–25 budget; several presenters invited board members and community members to visit the career center to see student work firsthand.
